Okay so this is an absolute pet peeve of mine. Besides people at the gym who insist on using heavy ass free weights to impress fellow on loakers. I cannot stand when I see people lean on the damm cardio machines.
Whether you are holding on for dear life to the treadmill or you are hugging the simulated stair machine . Stop right there...and slow down. Because it is no GOOD!!
Besides running the risk of busting your ass you can also damage your wrists in the long run. For instance if you walk up the simulated stairs and reach towards the back to hold yourself up you are placing too much weight on your wrists which can over time weaken them. Plus, all those calories you think you burned is a lie. If you put a good 1/3 rd of your body weight on the elitipical than guess what. The machine gets some of your credit.
There is no shame in your game to take it slow. Just like weight lifting it is easier to pace yourself and learn proper technique. Once you master the basic step then you can progress to a higher level.

  1. I once was at the gym and saw a lady eating chips while walking on the treadmill. I just shook my head and walked away. By the way, what are the best foods to eat pre and post workout? Thanks!
