Trying to Make a Dollar Out of 15 Cents and Still Pay the Rent

One major barrier to eating healthy has to be bigger than usual grocery bill. If you think about the amount of money you spend at the grocery store vs eating out turns out to be the same. Even if you paid a little at your local market the fact that you are eating healthier is a wise investment.

Well if you are not convinced about spending more on yourself CNN health wrote a nice little article on how to save at the grocery store.

1) Eat more meatless meals- Meat is a little costly. I love my lean turkey and purdue chicken cutlets, but they are a major portion of my grocery bill. Instead turn to beans, veggies, and healthy brown carbs to soothe your appetite (don't be afraid of the carbs it won't hurt you)

2) Make a meal plan - When it comes to anything a plan is key. It's good to just jot down what you want instead of going buckwild in the supermarket. The worse is on an empty stomach! Do an inventory of your fridge and pantries to see what needs to be restocked. Plus, most supermarkets have portable scanners so you can see your total as you shop and avoid the sticker shock at the counter.

3) Buy more do it yourself foods - I have to admit that I love my Purdue presealed slices. All I have to do is unseal it from the pack and stick it on my George Foreman. But I know that the regular chicken cutlets are much more economical. So stop being so fru fru and buy it like your mom used to.
