DEFENSE...BOOM.... BOOM.......DEFENSE!!!

Okay so with all this talk about the swine flu I think it's important to discuss ways to naturally boost your immune system and metabolism too. Because I train I take a lot of supplements to keep going. Sometimes I feel like the neighborhood pharmacy with all the pills I take, but I must say that I am very healthy. In fact, when my girlfriend and I went to the DR in February we both caught a nasty bug when we came back home. It took me two days to recover...unfortunately for my girlfriend it took her two weeks to shake her fever.

Besides boosting your immunity vitamins help your skin's complexion and makes your hair healthy and strong. Here are a few natural supplements I take to get me going.

Vitamin C
You should take anywhere between 600 - 1200 mg a day but do not exceed 2000 mg. Because I am training I take the maximum 2000 mg, but when I am not I do not exceed 1000 mg. Again don't overdue it. A great source of vitamin C is strawberries. Strawberries have more vitamin C than oranges... yes..it's true at 97 mg to be exact . Next down the line are papaya cubes at 87 mg and then oranges at 83 mg.

Chromium Picolinate
This is a supplement that a lot of people sleep on. Basically CR works by improving the efficiency of insulin and helps cells take in glucose and release energy. In a nutshell if you maintain a healthy diet (no processed foods) and exercise CR will aid in metabolizing fatty acids. If you look on the internet somepeople will swear by this while others say that it has no effect. Well I'm saying that I use it and it is apart of my daily regime and it works for me...so hey....why not!! Natural food sources include whole grains, orange juice, turkey, red wine, bananas, and broccoli.

Flaxseed Oil
Flaxseed Oil is one of your greatest allies to maintain a healthy system. Flaxseed oil contains a substance called ALA (alpha linolenic acid), EPA, and DHA. These substances are derived from omega 3's. Omega 3's help reduce inflammation, prevent chronic diseases, and arthritis. It's recommended that adults take 1 -2 tablespoons or you can do what I do and take it in pill form.
And remember people please use common sense and wash your hands..ehewww!! No Apologies
